Photos of the construction update of New Fantasyland taken in Magic Kingdom on October 1, 2011. (The 40th anniversary of WDW!) Some photos are over the wall and show Circusland and others are from the view of (old) Fantasyland and show just how far work has progressed. It’s amazing how much you can see from the park now over the wall of the work being done. It’s looking really amazing and a lot of detail is starting to take place.
Got an email today saying the WDW Annual Passes expire in 15 days. For the heck of it, I clicked through to see what the renewal cost would actually be. Florida residents can renew on a monthly payment plan (which I knew) but turns out, when they do, there isn’t a down payment. (Which I didn’t know.)
Normally, it’s the cost of a 1-day ticket down and then $27/month.
Annual Pass
Adult 10 and Older
Total Price: $414.29
Down Payment: $90.53
Monthly Payment: $26.98
But because you save $37/ticket on the renewal, you no longer have a down payment and instead just have a slightly higher monthly payment.
Renewal Annual Pass
Adult 10 and Older
Total Price: $377.01
Down Payment: $0.00
Monthly Payment: $31.42
So FYI to any Florida Residents who might be coming up for renewal, there is NO down payment on your renewal tickets.
As most Disney fans know, ToonTown was closed in February as part of the huge Fantasyland expansion currently taking place. ToonTown is gone, but a lot of work is being done behind the wall. I got some shots on Monday, May 16th around the wall that I’m sharing here with you.

And lastly, a ground shot of what used to be Goofy’s Barnstormer coaster. It’s being transformed into “The Great Goofini” under the new “Circus” theme for this section of new Fantasyland.
We’ll continue trying to get updates and shots as long as possible through the renovation and construction!
One of the highlights for me each year at the Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot is the butterfly garden! I absolutely love taking pictures of butterflies. Now, I have a compact point-and-shoot digital camera that, while it takes great pics, only has a 3x zoom. Butterflies are tricky little things and in a big tent full of people and kids chasing them, pointing at them, trying to get them to land on their hands, etc., getting close enough to get a great shot can be a challenge!
I missed the butterfly garden until the very last day of the Festival, but I think I did pretty good. Here’s a few of the shots I like the best from the bunch. All pictures taken Sunday, May 14th and all are au natural. The only post work I did was resize for the blog and put my watermark on them. I’m a digital photo purist.
There was also a beautiful yellow/black butterfly I tried chasing down but he just kept fluttering away and not landing! Like I said, tricky little buggers.
We stayed over at WDW for my birthday this weekend and rode the PeopleMover both Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, we noticed these weird work lights were all lit up inside Space Mountain making it very bright in there. The following day, not only were those lights on, but Space Mountain itself was down and all the Space Mountain lights were on too making the track entirely visible.
Here’s what the ride-through looks like currently with the lights on but Space Mountain running:
And here’s what the ride-through looked like when the work lights were on AND Space Mountain was down:
I was watching TV and a Werther’s commercial came on. I was like…wait a minute! Was that just Epcot…? so I rewound and sure enough, it was!
I just took a photo of my TV so it’s not the greatest quality:

As you can see, this is the “Caramel Kitchen” shop in Germany at Epcot. If you haven’t been yet – what are you waiting for? Their caramel popcorn is delicious. It’s quite a bit different from “normal” caramel popcorn but it’s so good. And made fresh right in the shop. They also have a huge display case of other caramel goodies from cupcakes to rice krispy treats to caramel-dipped fruits. Yum!!
Every year, Disney hides a lone Halloween decoration in it’s Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights display: a Halloween cat that was accidentally shipped with the Christmas lights when they traveled from the Osborne home in Little Rock, Arkansas to Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida. The cat is hidden in a different part of the display each year.
Can’t find it this year? Check behind the cut for the spoiler of where it is!
